Mottled Owl

(Strix Virgata)

The mottled owl is one of the most common owl species in Belize, and thrives in a variety of forest habitats, even near villages and towns. It hides out in dense tree foliage during the day, and roams for prey at night.

It makes its nest in tree hollows, laying one or two white eggs. Both parents have roles in rearing the chicks.
