31 campers from all over Belize came together to partake in TBZ’s 25th annual Conservation Camp. All our campers had a memorable and inspiring time getting immersed in Nature. Day and night tours of the Zoo, outdoor exploration, meet and greets with cool critters and career conservationists, and creative interactions among their peers were just some of the many happenings during “Zoo Camp” this year.
Our Tropical Education Center served as home base, but field trips to other amazing sites also helped open campers’ eyes to the natural wonders all over our country. Hiking in Runaway Creek Nature Reserve was a vivid example of the historical, cultural, and ecological importance of our protected areas. Touring the phenomenal Caves Branch Botanical Garden brought a new appreciation of native flora in Belize. For most of the campers, it was a first time experience to see the vanilla orchid, where the wondrous essence, vanilla comes from!
A highlight of Camp this year was certainly a zipline experience thanks to the great folks at Bocawina Rainforest Resort & Adventures. For most campers, this was the first time zooming through the canopies of Belize’s rich tropical forests.
An impromptu talent contest around the campfire brought lots of joy and laughter on the final night. What fun! TBZ extends a huge paws up to our colleagues who participated this year, as well as our superb team of Supervisors that ensured Camp went through seamlessly. Good memories, great friendships, important education and a remarkable outdoor time all rolled into one.
